SUMMARY OF SURVEY ON EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP

“Conscious of its spiritual and moral heritage, the Union is founded on the indivisible, universal values of human dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity; it is based on the principles of democracy and the rule of law. It places the individual at the heart of its activities, by establishing the citizenship of the Union and by creating an area of freedom, security and justice. (PREAMBLE, Charter Of Fundamental Rights Of The European Union)”.

By means of this project, Active Citizenship in Europe, we aim at disseminating the contents of European Citizenship Rights, so that they can be acknowledged and enjoyed by all European citizens. It goes without saying that enjoyment of these rights entails responsibilities and duties with regard to other persons, to the human community and to future generations.

One of the first actions we decided to take was to design a survey in order to assess how aware Europeans are of their citizenship rights and whether we exercise them. The aim was, consequently, to establish training strategies to acknowledge and implement those rights. The survey was designed by IFAID Aquitaine trainees (Marilou BREDA, Raïssa MAGRONDJI, Eléa OLIVIER, Alix VAVAL, and Johanna VOIGT) following the specifications and contributions of all members. Once the draft was revised and corrected, the final outcome was issued and each of the participants implemented it with a target group in their countries and in their national language. Following that stage, a report was written and recommendations made.
